Daniel Jones DJ Review January 2013
January is usually a quiet month in DJ and Sound land, this year was busier than last year;
So What did Daniel Jones DJ get up to? Well I sound manned for Avital Raz again at the New Continental Preston, lovely lady this time gigging with a band and this was their second time doing this. I must say it turned out very well and you can tell that these are all talented musicians.
The first DJ gig was also during the first batch of snow and was taking place in deepest darkest Pendle, luckily the roads were all well gritted and we partied on. What a gig it was too 60th spinning Beatles, Chuck Berry old rock n roll, funk, disco basically anything before 1980. Was a truly enjoyable gig. Geraldines son also played an acoustic set which is how I actually got the gig due to my sound engineering expertises.
The next gig happened as Britain became covered in a blanket of snow, I must say nothing is more annoying than how snow seems to cripple this country. Anyhow the show must go on and we had a good 21st I was worried that it may be a poor turn out but I was proven wrong and some people came from Manchester on this day (the M61 was closed for some time too)
Also on the agenda was a corporate keynote which is always welcome this time of year. These jobs are always pressured but in different ways we have to get everything spot on and have back ups of back ups, also due to the vast number of people we are presenting to (over 1,000) and installing a temporary sound system in a working factory environment is not without significant challenges however, working like this keeps you fresh and constantly thinking. (one of my working motto’s is continuous improvement).
So what does February look like?
Well I just did my First wedding at Westleigh conference centre in Preston (Where I got married last November!) for the Ginns, I played alongside a band and to keep things tidy I used their PA communication is key in things like this and the DJ and band talking helps lots.
New lights are here and the set up is starting to look a lot tidier and more professional. I also did sound for Stuart McCallum last night amazing gig such a sound person too. Tomorrow I am sound manning for Thurston Moore (lead Singer Sonic Youth) and Michael Chapman (Folk Legend) I have 2 40th’s, O’Hooley and Tiddow & Paul Birchall Trio gig and a Youth Hostelling Cycling weekend.
